The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced a temporary suspension of physical road tax slip (Lesen Kenderaan Motor, LKM) issuance for individual private vehicles owned by Malaysian citizens, effective from April 18 to May 18, 2025. This decision comes after JPJ reported that the remaining stock of physical LKM slips at its central storage is critically low, with only 40,000 units left—insufficient to meet nationwide demand for even a month.

The shortage is due to a technical malfunction involving the hologram printing machine at the supplier’s (PKN) facility. The repair process is estimated to take approximately two weeks, during which physical LKM slip printing will be temporarily halted.



As part of its short-term mitigation plan, JPJ will only issue digital road tax (eLKM) during this period for eligible vehicles, which includes individual private vehicles registered under Malaysian citizens. However, applicants who need to drive abroad will still be allowed to request a physical slip. Those who do not receive a physical LKM during this period may return after May 18, 2025 to request a printed copy by presenting their transaction receipt. Meanwhile, vehicles not supported by MyJPJ’s digital platform, such as those owned by non-citizens, companies, or used for commercial and goods transport, will still be allowed to receive physical road tax slips.

JPJ has also instructed all self-service kiosks to operate in digital-only mode during this time, and state JPJ offices are required to report their LKM stock levels to the headquarters on a daily basis. The department assures the public that steps are being taken to resolve the supply issue promptly and that a long-term plan is being developed to prevent such disruptions in the future.
