Agriculture is the backbone of the country and economy. Without farmers and their hard work, a country is unable to sustain itself. We would be unable to feed our citizens and would have to rely on other countries to support ourselves. Malaysia has a rich and proud history in agriculture over the years. It is still an extremely valuable industry. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the agriculture sector contributed 7.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Malaysia in 2018.
However, farming food products have been declining steadily which increases our dependence of imported food goods. The younger generation are not keen in exploring this field and we, as a society are not offering farmers the support they deserve. A back breaking profession such as this requires all the support possible.
