Exciting news! Honda Malaysia (HMSB) has confirmed that the Honda Prelude Concept will be showcased at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), happening from December 5 to 11 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
This is the hybrid coupe’s first appearance in the region after its global debut at last year’s Japan Mobility Show. It received a lot of attention for its stylish design, the return of a well-loved name, and its “near-production” look, suggesting it could be heading to showrooms soon.
There’s strong speculation that this next-generation model will go on sale in 2025, filling the gap left by the 5th-generation Prelude, which ended production in 2001, and the Civic Coupe, which was discontinued in 2021 due to low sales.
The Prelude Concept’s debut at KLIMS not only supports its potential comeback but also makes its entry into the Malaysian market feel like a real possibility for fans.
The Prelude Concept has an eye-catching design with a sharp front end, sleek headlights, a modern grille, a streamlined roofline, and bold taillights. While Honda has yet to release full details, it’s expected to have a more powerful version of their e:HEV hybrid system, made for better performance and driving fun.
The e:HEV system, used in models like the City, HR-V, CR-V, and Civic, pairs an electric motor for driving the car with a petrol engine that works as both a generator and a direct drive, using a simple transmission and lock-up clutch.
Even though some people thought it might have a manual transmission, it’s unlikely the Prelude will, sticking to its hybrid setup. But Honda hasn’t ruled out a non-hybrid version in the future, which could have a manual transmission.
The Prelude Concept is ready to bring excitement back to Honda’s two-door cars, becoming the brand’s first “affordable” coupe since the CR-Z ended in 2016 (though there was the imported S660).
Along with this, Honda Malaysia could surprise fans with another new reveal at the upcoming motor show, possibly showing the facelifted Civic. This fits with HMSB’s earlier promise to launch two new models this year, with one still to be revealed.
