Registrations of interest for Chery Malaysia's Omoda E5, which is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2024, are now being accepted. The Omoda 5 crossover, which is entirely electric and will be sold here as a fully-imported (CBU) model from China, was given a sneak peek at the end of last month.
Technical parameters for the Omoda E5 include a 61-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a WLTP-rated range of 430 kilometers. With 204 PS (201 horsepower or 150 kW) and 340 Nm of torque, the front-mounted electric motor runs on battery power and can reach 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
The maximum AC input power for charging the Omoda E5 is 9.9 kW, while the maximum DC input power is 80 kW. When using a suitable DC fast charger, the ROI page states that charging a battery from 30 to 80% capacity will only take 30 minutes.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 18-inch alloy wheels, black leather seat upholstery, LED projector headlamps, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a Qualcomm 8155 system on chip (SoC) are among the features we can anticipate being included with the EVO.
The Omoda E5 also has keyless entry and automated start, which requires the driver to just step on the brake after getting inside. One more feature is one-pedal driving. Moreover, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system with a maximum output of 3.3 kW is available to power accessories and electrical appliances.
With features like adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, front collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, auto high beam, hill start assist, hill descent control, and tire pressure monitoring, the Omoda E5 shares the same suite of advanced driver assistance systems as the regular Omoda 5. A driver monitoring system is one additional element of the EV.
Current pricing for the petrol-powered Omoda 5, which retails for between RM108,800 and RM118,800 (OTR without insurance), is expected to be more than that of the Omoda E5. In comparison to the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range, which retails for RM167,800, the Omoda E5 should be reasonably priced if the difference between the EV and ICE models is modest.
In terms of specifications, the BYD EV and the Omoda E5 are similar, with each having unique benefits in certain areas, as our preview piece explains. Let us know why you would choose the Omoda E5 over the Atto 3 if you are a serious fan of the vehicle.
